In recent days, Amazon officially announced that it will invest over 1.4 billion euros into the Dutch market between 2025 and 2027. This marks Amazon's largest investment commitment in the country since the official launch of its Dutch site, Amazon.nl, in 2020. This strategic investment will support both Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its retail business, aiming to strengthen infrastructure and help Dutch small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) expand both locally and globally.
According to the plan, the funds will be primarily allocated to the expansion of the logistics network, technological upgrades, and the enhancement of cloud service capabilities. Specific measures include expanding fulfillment centers, increasing the number of parcel lockers, providing faster delivery options, and strengthening the local cloud and AI infrastructure through AWS.

Currently, Amazon's business presence in the Netherlands is already taking shape, with offices in Amsterdam and The Hague, a delivery station in Rozenburg, and over 1,000 local employees. Notably, more than 60% of the products on Amazon.nl come from third-party sellers, with approximately 4,500 Dutch SMEs operating on the platform. Among these, nearly 90% have successfully sold their products to 170 countries, and over 75% of sellers export to other EU countries, with Germany, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy being the primary export destinations.
This investment is also viewed by the industry as a significant move by Amazon in its competition with the local Dutch e-commerce platform Bol.com. As of the end of June this year, Bol.com had approximately 46,500 sales partners in the Benelux region, about ten times the scale of Amazon. 1981 Tech believes that this investment will inject strong momentum into Amazon's logistics and cloud service capabilities in Europe. This will not only mean faster delivery speeds and lower costs but will also attract more sellers to join, thereby strengthening its ecosystem.
Through this strategic investment, Amazon will not only accelerate its market presence in the Netherlands but also provide local SMEs with digital solutions, including AI tools, to help them achieve comprehensive upgrades in operations and marketing, further solidifying its competitive position in the European e-commerce market.
